11:00am – 2:00pm
October PEP Club outing.
The weather man says it’s going to be 65 and sunny; a perfect day for a PEP club outing. PEP club will be Wednesday, October 10, the second Wednesday of the month, but not at the church.
We’ll have lunch at the Plattepus Café at the Platte Valley Antique Mall I-80 Exit 420 – which is the "Greenwood" exit at 11:30 and then be at our adventure at 1:00. I will put a menu in the mail so the café can expedite our order; all sandwiches are $5.00 and include shoepeg salad, black olives, and a pickle spear. ½ Sandwich and cup of Chicken Vegetable soup is also $5.00.
We’ll meet in the West Parking lot of the church at 11:00 am. Arrive in Greenwood at 11:30 am and leave the Plattepus for Cloisters on the Platte to arrive at 1:00 pm.
What’s “The Cloisters on the Platte” you ask? Situated roughly between I-80 on the west and Nebraska Highway 31 on the east, is a nearly 1,000-acre undertaking. That’s larger than Mahoney State Park, its neighbor across the river.
A world-class team of architects and artisans created a tranquil atmosphere that blends seamlessly with the natural environment on 91 acres. There’s a Chapel, Main House, a gift shop, and seven Guest Lodges. In fact, all parking is underground as to not disrupt the environment. Which means shuttles will take us from the parking area to the chapel.
For those who want to participate in a The Stations of the Cross walk, there are 12 stations. Each station tells a story about Jesus’ life that concludes with the beginning of Christianity, and includes an audio tour. This is the same length that Jesus carried the cross from Jerusalem to Golgotha, about 2,500 feet.
We’ll be back at the church around 2:00 pm. I’ll be renting the people mover again if you trust my driving, otherwise, we’ll arrange a carpool.
This means we need to have an exact count by Friday, October 5th. Please call Nicki at the church.
