Divinely Conceived Joy
Passage: Matthew 1:18–1:25
Our longing for joy reflects, at the same time, something good in us and something fallen in us. We long for joy because we were made to be in the presence of God. All earthly desires either reflect or mask that deeper longing. Yet despite our yearning to be with God, our sin kept us from him. That is, until God sent Jesus, Immanuel, “God with us,” to restore us to his presence and bring us fullness of joy.
