Sola Scriptura

August 6, 2017 Speaker: James Sharp Series: The Courage to be Protestant

Passage: 2 Timothy 3:14–3:17

What is truth, and how do we know it? Protestants believe that Scripture alone reveals truth about God, how we can know him, and what he calls us to. In the time of the Reformation, it was Church Tradition and the authority of the Pope that rivaled the authority of Scripture. Today, it isn’t tradition; rather, we are tempted to look to the winds of culture and the emotional power of experience to tell us what is true. Five hundred years later, it still takes courage to resist these impulses and stand on Scripture alone.
