Our Beliefs
The gospel is good news, declaring that God saves sinners through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior. It is the heart of the Christian faith, the central message of the Bible, and the only hope for humanity. At Capitol City Christian Church, we believe Jesus is central. Everything in our church revolves around Him; He is the main focus.
The following statement of beliefs does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. As the inspired Word of God, the Bible speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and proper conduct of mankind, and is the sole and final source of all that we believe.
We Believe that…
God
We believe there is one God – the Maker, Preserver, and Ruler of all things – having in and of Himself all perfection, and being infinite in them all; to Him all people owe their highest love, reverence, and obedience. God is revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
(Genesis 1:1; Genesis 1:26; Exodus 3:14; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6)
Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe that when Jesus died, He suffered as a substitute in the place of and on behalf of fallen humanity. We believe in His bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for all believers, and ultimate return to earth.
(Galatians 4:4; Philippians 2:5-8)
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who was given from the Father and the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Additionally, the Spirit came to regenerate, purify, empower, and gift all who believe in Jesus Christ.
We believe that the Holy Spirit dwells in all who believe in Jesus Christ and is a permanent helper, teacher, and guide.
(John 14:16-17, 26; Galatians 5:22-26)
The Trinity
We believe there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of these is divinely equal in every perfect way, and they execute distinct but harmonious roles of creation, providence, and redemption.
(Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:20-21)
The Word of God
We believe the Bible (the Old and New Testament Scriptures) is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error. It was written through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, who has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12)
The Church
We believe in the universal church; a living spiritual body with Christ as the head, and all redeemed persons are members.
We believe in the local church, which consists of believers in Jesus Christ who have been baptized after a confession of faith and actively gather for worship, service, fellowship, and communion.
We believe God calls the church to the primary tasks of living a life of worship, nurturing the body of believers, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.
(Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 1:19-23; Ephesians 2:19-22;)
Humanity
We believe that humanity was created in the image of God. As a result of Adam and Eve’s sin, all humanity fell into sin, and is now subject to its consequences. Only through faith in Jesus Christ can sinners be fully forgiven of their sin, and restored to a right relationship with God.
(Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:17; Romans 3:23)
Salvation
We believe the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide the only basis for salvation. Those who believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God should repent of sin, confess their faith in Jesus as the Christ, and be baptized by immersion into Him, continually depending on His grace for salvation by faith.
(John 14:6; Acts 2:38; Acts 4:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 3:21)
Baptism
Capitol City Christian Church baptizes by immersion people who have decided to make Jesus the Lord of their lives. It is a beautiful symbol of the individual’s obedience to God and deep desire for change, for cleansing, and for commitment to live and love as Jesus did.
(Ephesians 1:3-8; Galatians 3:26-27; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-7)
Restoration Movement
Capitol City Christian Church is a non-denominational church that is affiliated with the Restoration Movement. This movement began in the early 1800s and was born out of a desire to abandon denominational divisions and to unite around core scriptural doctrines. The unity among churches and members is achieved by seeking guidance from the Holy Bible alone rather than from creeds, cultures, and opinions.
To summarize, our church is motivated by four simple mottos:
-
At Capitol City, we stand firm on the authority of Scripture—God’s Word is our foundation and guide. While we value learning from books, sermons, and teachers we may agree or disagree with, we are not defined by them. Creeds have historical value and can express truth, but we will not place ourselves under any creed or human authority. Instead, we are united and identified only under the divine, driven solely by God’s Word.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 \\ Hebrews 4:12 \\ Isaiah 40:8
-
Our second motto is simple: No name but Christ alone. We boldly proclaim what Scripture clearly teaches—that salvation is found only in Jesus, and we stand firm in His love, mercy, and grace. At the same time, we recognize the importance of humility where Scripture is silent, holding firmly to God’s truth while giving one another freedom in matters of opinion. In all things, we seek to champion God’s Word above human voices or personal preferences.
Acts 4:12 \\ John 14:6
-
We stand together in the core truth that there is one God and one Savior, Jesus Christ, who brings us salvation. Beyond those essentials, we allow freedom to hold different opinions and make different choices without judgment. Above all, we commit to love one another—not just in words or feelings, but through actions that care for each other, even when we disagree.
John 13:34–35 \\ Ephesians 4:3–6 \\ Romans 14:1, 4
-
We are not defined by denominational labels—we want to be known as followers of Jesus. We honor and respect believers in other traditions, but our identity is rooted in Christ alone, not in what we do or achieve. Because our identity is in Him, we find our true purpose: to live out His love through ministries, service, and community, showing the world who we belong to.
Galatians 3:28 \\ 1 Corinthians 1:12–13 \\ Colossians 3:3–4
