Capitol City Missions

God has given our church a deep desire to see people from every nation know the joy and life found in Jesus Christ, and that desire shapes everything we do in Missions. Our heart is to carry the Gospel beyond our walls—into Northeast Lincoln, across Nebraska, and to the ends of the earth—by partnering with individuals and organizations who share this same calling. We believe our work is not a program but a relationship: a way for our church family to connect, encourage, pray for, and celebrate with faithful Kingdom builders

2026 Partners & Projects

  • Christian Student Fellowship (CSF) exists to help college students encounter Jesus, grow as disciples, and carry the gospel into every corner of their campuses and future callings. Across Nebraska and South Dakota, CSF creates vibrant communities where students worship, study Scripture, serve together, and discover what it means to follow Jesus with their whole lives.

Capitol City partners with the entire CSF organization and two individual missionaries because their mission mirrors our own. College is one of the most spiritually decisive seasons of life, and CSF meets students right in the middle of it—offering Truth, belonging, discipleship, and purpose at a time when many are searching for direction.

Supporting CSF means investing in the next generation of missionaries, pastors, teachers, engineers, nurses, and everyday disciple‑makers who will influence the world for Christ. Learn more and directly support CSF at csfunleashed.com

  • Ozark Christian College in Joplin, Missouri, has spent more than 80 years training men and women to serve Jesus with conviction, humility, and skill. Their mission resonates deeply with our own: raising up workers who will carry the gospel into churches, communities, and mission fields around the world.

Investing in this college means helping prepare those workers — men and women who will help people find and follow Jesus for decades to come. Learn more, sign up for classes, and directly support this ministry at occ.edu.

  • For more than 15 years, Derrick and his wife, Jacqueline Meier, have devoted their lives to bringing the gospel to people who have never heard the name of Jesus. Based in the United States, Derrick serves unreached communities through Commission Coaching, a ministry laser‑focused on equipping gospel pioneers who work in the most spiritually resistant and overlooked corners of the world.

By supporting him, we are directly investing in Kingdom work among people who may otherwise live and die without ever meeting a follower of Jesus. Learn more and directly support Derreck and Commission Coaching at commissioncoaching.org.

  • The Pregnancy Center in Lincoln is a Christ‑centered ministry that walks with women and couples facing unplanned pregnancies, offering compassion, clarity, and practical support when it’s needed most. Every day, the Center provides free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, options counseling, and community resources to help women make informed, life‑affirming decisions. Their team creates a safe, welcoming space where clients feel seen, valued, and never alone — a place where fear gives way to hope and where every life is treated with dignity.

Each May, Capitol City partners with the Pregnancy Center through a Baby Bottle Offering, a simple but powerful way to support this life‑changing ministry. Families pick up a bottle, fill it with donations throughout the month, and return it on Baby Bottle Sunday. Every dollar placed in those bottles directly fuels the Center’s mission — providing ultrasounds, counseling, education, and ongoing support for moms, dads, and babies right here in Lincoln. This offering allows our church to stand alongside vulnerable families in our own community and champion the value of every human life.

If you or someone you know needs this ministry's services, to learn more, or to directly support this ministry, visit pregnancycenterlincoln.org.

  • The Clothing Exchange is one of Capitol City’s most personal and practical ministries — a simple act of generosity that has become a steady source of hope for families across Lincoln. Throughout the year, our church collects gently used clothing for children, teens, and adults, organizing it into a clean, store‑like environment where anyone can come and choose what they need at no cost.

There are no forms. No requirements. No judgment. Just the love of Jesus expressed through something as basic — and essential — as clothing. It’s a living picture of Christ’s words in Matthew 25:36: “I needed clothes and you clothed me.”

On the third Saturday of every month, volunteers open the Clothing Exchange to the community, creating a warm, welcoming space where families can find dignity, relief, and encouragement.

Before distribution begins and as guests gather, our team often shares a short devotional or gospel message, reminding everyone who walks through the doors that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by God. This monthly rhythm of practical care and spiritual encouragement has become a trusted presence in our neighborhood — a place where needs are met, and hearts are lifted.

Donate clothes during church business hours at door number four. To help sort clothes and get involved, email Maria, at maria@goborland.com.

  • Located in Mbale, Uganda, LivingStone International University (LIU) is raising up a new generation

of leaders who are academically excellent, spiritually grounded, and equipped to influence their

    communities for Christ.

In a region where access to Christian higher education is limited, LIU stands as a beacon of hope — offering degrees in ministry, business, education, IT, media, and more. Students come from across East and Central Africa, representing nations such as Uganda, Kenya, Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Somalia. Many arrive seeking opportunity; they leave prepared to shape their nations with integrity, wisdom, and the gospel.

Capitol City’s partnership with LIU is deeply personal. Our Missions Pastor, Roger Fletcher, has long‑standing ties to this ministry, investing relationally, prayerfully, and strategically in its growth. His connection strengthens our church’s understanding of LIU’s mission and keeps us closely linked to the lives being transformed on campus.

LIU is more than a university — it is a movement of Christ‑centered leadership development that is shaping the future of Africa.

Supporting LIU means investing in a future where African leaders are equipped to bring justice, innovation, compassion, and the gospel into every sphere of society.

  • Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, delivers gift‑filled shoeboxes to children in need across the globe — each one packed with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and most importantly, the message of Jesus Christ. Every shoebox becomes a tangible expression of God’s love, opening doors for local churches to share the gospel and invite children into ‘The Greatest Journey’, a 12‑lesson discipleship program that helps them grow in their new faith.

Capitol City is honored to serve as an official Operation Christmas Child collection site, receiving shoeboxes from families, churches, and community groups across Lincoln. Each November, our building becomes a hub of generosity as volunteers welcome donors, pray over boxes, and prepare them for the next stage of their journey. National Collection Week is one of the simplest and most impactful ways our church family can support global missions — by packing a shoebox, praying over it, and bringing it to Capitol City during collection week. Every box represents a child, a family, and a community that will hear the hope of Jesus.

  • Capitol City is honored to partner with Deaf Child Hope International, a ministry dedicated to transforming the lives of deaf children living in poverty. Around the world, deaf children are among the most vulnerable — often overlooked, underserved, and without access to education or communication support. Deaf Child Hope steps into that gap by providing food, schooling, sign‑language instruction, spiritual guidance, and loving community through local ministry partners who understand each child’s unique needs.

As a church, we sponsor Mbembe and Kalwana. Our sponsorship ensures they receive daily care, education, and the opportunity to learn about Jesus in a language they can understand. This partnership also reflects a meaningful part of Capitol City’s story. For many years, our church had a vibrant ministry to the hearing‑impaired, faithfully serving and worshiping alongside individuals who were deaf or hard of hearing.

While we do not currently have deaf members in our congregation, sponsoring these two children allows us to honor a history of ministry to the Deaf community, and extend Christ’s love in a way that remains true to who we have been. Through letters, updates, and prayer, our church family gets to play a small but significant role in their lives — a continuation of a legacy built on accessibility and gospel hope.

  • For more than 20 years, Jeremy and Oana Befort have devoted their lives to reaching some of Romania’s most vulnerable young adults with the gospel. Their ministry began in 2004 with For God’s Children International (see page 14), serving institutionalized and at‑risk children. Over the years, they built deep relationships with hundreds of Romanian youth — many of whom grew up in state‑run orphanages and now face adulthood without family support, stability, or guidance.

In 2021, God led Jeremy to launch a new ministry under New International, focused entirely on long‑term, one‑on‑one discipleship, mentoring, and lay counseling for these young adults. Today, he connects with more than 300 Romanian young men and women, many of whom are scattered across Romania and throughout Europe as they search for work and housing.

Because these young adults are constantly on the move, much of Jeremy’s ministry happens online — through video calls, messages, and late‑night conversations where he listens, counsels, teaches Scripture, and points them to Jesus. He also travels to Romania regularly to meet with dozens of them face‑to‑face, strengthening relationships and partnering with local believers to connect each young adult to a church family.

This is slow, faithful, relational ministry — the kind that mirrors the heart of Jesus and aligns deeply with Capitol City’s desire to support discipleship‑focused missions.

Supporting the Beforts means investing in a generation that has often been overlooked — young adults who desperately need the hope, healing, and direction that only Jesus can give.

  • For God’s Children International (FGCI) is a Christ‑centered ministry serving vulnerable children in Eastern Europe and the United States. Their mission is simple: to bring hope, dignity, and the love of Jesus to kids who often feel forgotten.

FGCI works primarily in Romania and Moldova, where many children face poverty, neglect, and instability. Through humanitarian aid, Bible teaching, mentorship, and consistent relational care, they step into hard places with compassion and the gospel.

A key part of their stateside ministry is Camp of the Good Shepherd in Louisville, Nebraska, a Christ‑centered camp that provides retreats, discipleship, and community for children, youth, and families. It strengthens FGCI’s mission by shaping young lives and supporting their broader work with vulnerable kids.

FGCI also continues to assist Ukrainian refugees with food, transportation, and spiritual support. Whether overseas or here at home, their heartbeat remains the same: reminding every child that they are seen, loved, and valued by God.

We have many opportunities for believers of all ages to join in short-term missions trips to Romania and Moldova. For many years, we have taken FGCI teams to serve in our summer Bible camps. These two-week or ten-day Missions Trips are wonderful opportunities to build relationships and to share the hope and love of Christ with the children and adults FGCI serves.

Recently, we have been taking teams to build “tiny houses” for families in need—a ministry that has proven to open doors for effective evangelistic outreach and disciple-making. If you or a small group are interested in serving on an FGCI Short-term Missions Team, please contact Joel Burkum for details at jburkum@fgci.org.

  • F Street Neighborhood Church is a vibrant, deeply relational ministry planted right in the heart of downtown Lincoln. Their mission is simple and powerful: to be a place of acceptance and direction for people who may never walk into a traditional church setting.

Led by Jeff Heerspink and Bill Thornton, F Street ministers to a beautifully diverse community — people experiencing homelessness, individuals in recovery, families in transition, young adults searching for belonging, and long‑time residents who call the neighborhood home. Every Sunday, people from all backgrounds gather for worship, communion, teaching, and community around the table.

F Street steps into the downtown neighborhood with open doors — offering meals, relationships, recovery support, practical help, and the hope of Jesus. Their monthly block parties, weekly Celebrate Recovery gatherings, and everyday presence on the corner of 13th & F Street make them a steady light in a part of the city where stability can be hard to find.

Supporting F Street means investing in Kingdom work happening right here in downtown Lincoln — work that is relational and deeply Christlike.

  • Lifeline Christian Mission partners with local leaders around the world to bring Christ‑centered transformation to communities through church planting, education, nutrition, healthcare, and sustainable development. Their heartbeat is simple: meet physical needs, share the hope of Jesus, and empower communities to thrive.

Capitol City has already experienced the impact of this partnership firsthand. In 2025, our church came together to pack over 50,000 meals that were shipped to families in Guatemala — a tangible expression of compassion that met real needs and opened doors for the gospel. These meals didn’t just fill stomachs; they strengthened churches, supported schools, and reminded entire communities that God sees them.

But Lifeline’s mission goes far beyond meal packs. They create opportunities for churches like ours to step directly into the story through short‑term mission trips. These trips allow teams to serve alongside local believers, build relationships, encourage missionaries, and witness the global Church in action. Whether through construction projects, children’s ministry, medical outreach, or community development, Lifeline crafts experiences that are meaningful, safe, and spiritually stretching.

For Capitol City, partnering with Lifeline means more than supporting a ministry — it means stepping into God’s work around the world with our own hands and feet.

Supporting Lifeline means investing in a ministry that multiplies hope, dignity, and discipleship across the world.

  • Missionary Air Group exists to deliver medical care, relief, and the love of Jesus to people living in some of the world's most remote regions. Their work is often the difference between life and death, isolation and connection, despair and hope.

Keith Woockman serves with Missionary Air Group as a missionary airplane mechanic and trained pilot, using his technical skills and calling to support this life‑saving ministry.

Today, Keith helps maintain and prepare aircraft that fly into rugged regions like the jungles of Honduras and the remote communities surrounding the Rus Rus Hospital. Every repair, inspection, and flight hour he contributes directly supports medical brigades, emergency evacuations, and gospel‑centered outreach. His work ensures that Missionary Air Group’s aircraft remain safe, reliable, and ready to serve at a moment’s notice.

Capitol City partners with Keith because his ministry reflects the heart of Jesus — compassion in action, service through sacrifice, and a willingness to go where others cannot. Through aviation, Keith helps carry the gospel and life‑saving care to people who would otherwise be unreachable.

  • Beyond Prison, a ministry of Christian Heritage, exists to strengthen families separated by incarceration by helping parents stay connected to their children and by surrounding families with a caring, gospel

‑centered community. In Nebraska, one in ten kids has an incarcerated parent — a reality that creates deep emotional, relational, and financial strain. Beyond Prison steps into that gap with practical support, parenting classes, relational mentoring, and opportunities for families to reconnect in healthy, hope‑filled ways.

Each December, Capitol City partners with Beyond Prison to host a special Christmas event for these families. This gathering is an extension of Christian Heritage’s Destination…Dad program, giving children and caregivers a place to experience joy, dignity, and community during a season that can feel especially heavy. Our church provides gifts, hospitality, and a warm, welcoming environment where families can laugh, share a meal, and feel the love of Christ in tangible ways. Volunteers serve, pray, wrap presents, and build relationships — reminding every guest that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.

This event has become a meaningful expression of compassion at Capitol City. It allows us to stand with families who often feel isolated, to break cycles of generational hurt, and to shine the light of Jesus into places where hope is desperately needed.

  • Norwood Park Elementary is a neighborhood school in northeast Lincoln, led by a dedicated staff who pour themselves into supporting students and families every single day. For over 20 years, Capitol City has partnered with Norwood Park to encourage teachers, strengthen families, and meet students’ needs.

At the heart of our partnership is the Lincoln Public Schools Backpack Program, one of the most impactful ministries we participate in. Each week during the school year, Capitol City provides over 75 backpacks filled with food, provided by the Lincoln Food Bank, to students who do not have consistent access to meals over the weekend. These backpacks are filled with kid‑friendly, nutritious items that help bridge the gap between Friday and Monday — ensuring students return to school ready to learn, grow, and thrive. For many families, these bags are a lifeline, offering stability and dignity during seasons of financial strain.

Our support doesn’t stop there. Capitol City has provided holiday food baskets, encouraged teachers with treats on in‑service days, and more. Through every project, every backpack, and every act of kindness, we express our gratitude for the incredible work Norwood Park’s teachers do and our commitment to loving our community well.

To help cover the cost of the meals or sign up to pack a backpack, email layne@capitolcity.org.

  • Sewing Servants is a quiet but impactful ministry at Capitol City — a team of women who use their gifts in quilting and sewing to bless others in moments of need. Throughout the year, they create handmade quilts, blankets, and other sewn items that are given to individuals and families walking through illness, grief, transition, or hardship. Every piece is crafted with prayer, compassion, and the hope that those who receive them will feel wrapped in the love of Christ.

This ministry is simple, steady, and deeply meaningful. The Sewing Servants gather regularly to cut, stitch, tie, and assemble quilts that bring warmth and comfort to people in our church and community. Their work often goes unseen, but its impact is unmistakable — a tangible reminder that God cares about every detail of our lives and that His people are called to care for one another with the same tenderness.
